Family House has had the fortune of partnering with Service Corps San Francisco over the last few years. We are thrilled to highlight the outstanding relationship Family House has with Service Corps and its members.

Service Corps San Francisco is an organization that prides itself in cultivating mother-son relationships through volunteering and community service in San Francisco. The members of the Service Corps are mothers with sons’ that are in Grades 7 through 9. They continually seek out new members to gain leadership skills and promote social awareness. Service Corp members want to make a difference by serving their philanthropic partners in San Francisco, including Family House.

Originally established in 2015, Service Corps has nearly 250 members and continues to grow. Service Corps has worked with Family House since 2017 and has contributed over 100 hours of service to our organization. Before the pandemic, Service Corps members had hosted over 50 onsite events for children and their families. Game night became a popular staple at Family House, with Service Corps members providing snacks and hosting interactive activities. Members would also host arts and crafts activities to connect with the families over engaging art projects. Another fun activity Service Corps often hosted was yard games where the children would run around and be physically active.

When Service Corps members visit Family House, they approach each family with empathy and compassion. Members are willing to go above and beyond for families whenever possible. They are unwavering in their positivity and energy to have uplifting interactions with each of the families residing at Family House.

Throughout the pandemic, Service Corps has continued to support Family House from a distance. Their most recent support came for Easter, where they provided Easter eggs and treats for our families. They have also recently supported other holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving providing candy and goodie bags. This support has been critical during this time and plays an integral part in lifting our families’ spirits during this challenging period.

Service Corps’ core values are essential to the organization and are as follows:

  • Inspiring a legacy of social awareness and compassion
  • Providing depth of support in local communities
  • Empowering young men with the skills and confidence to lead
  • Nurturing community through mentorship
  • Encouraging integrity and excellence in everything we do

Service Corps SF is an incredible organization and continues to be an essential partner to Family House. Their contributions are immeasurable and continue to fill our hearts with much-needed joy and appreciation. We are thankful to have a partner in Service Corps and look forward to our continued work together.

Volunteers play a pivotal role in the success of our mission at Family House, by assisting our staff in providing a safe and comfortable home for families in crisis. We rely on over 5,000 volunteers per year and due to the pandemic nearly all volunteering has been halted. Find out more about how you can help support our families. If you have questions about Volunteering at Family House, contact Chief Community Engagement Officer Karen Banks at kbanks@familyhouseinc.org or (415) 502-5659.
