One of the ways we are enjoying at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/familyhouseinc.org\/tl\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Family House<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is through a creative summer craft, something that involves the whole family and is easy for the kids.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For our summer craft activity in June, we are building sailboats made of sponges. Let\u2019s have a look at how to create one!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-heading\">\n\t\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What You Need For This Summer Craft<\/h2>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-list\">\n\t\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 6 inch skewer<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 pieces of card stock<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 sponge<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elmers glue<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scissors<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A body of water!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-image\">\n\t\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/familyhouseinc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image008.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13774\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><strong>Step-by-Step Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 1 \u2013 For the sail, cut out a triangle of any size from the card stock paper. We find a triangle&nbsp;about 4 inches high works well!<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-image\">\n\t\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/familyhouseinc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image007.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13775\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 2 \u2013 For the flag, cut out a diamond shape (smaller than the sail) from the construction paper.&nbsp; A flag about 1 inch high works well.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-image\">\n\t\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/familyhouseinc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image006.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13776\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 3 \u2013 Fold the diamond in half and put glue on one side of the diamond.&nbsp; Take the skewer and fold the diamond (with glue) around the top of the skewer (the end opposite of the pointy end).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-image\">\n\t\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/familyhouseinc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image005.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13777\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 4 \u2013 For the sail, take out the triangle shape and snip a tiny opening at the top of the triangle and then snip a tiny opening directly below it at the base.&nbsp; Run the skewer through the two openings.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-image\">\n\t\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/familyhouseinc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image004.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13778\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 5 \u2013 Take out the sponge.&nbsp; Cut the sponge to whatever size you want the base of the boat to be.&nbsp; We have found that one sponge cut in half works well.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-image\">\n\t\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/familyhouseinc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image003.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13779\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"block--core-paragraph\">\n\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 6 \u2013 Poke the skewer with the sail and flag all the way into the sponge.
