Bring Home the Magic 

In 2016, Family House moved to Mission Bay so that the families in our care could stay close to the new UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital when it opened in 2015. Made possible by a $42MM campaign, we combined our operations within two older buildings near UCSF’s Parnassus Campus into the new Nancy and Stephen Grand Family House at 540 Mission Bay North Boulevard. Guided by our founder, Dr. Art Ablin, and the extraordinary support of our community, the new Family House opened in 2016  with 80 rooms, expanded amenities, and all of the love and compassion that we have provided to families since 1981.  

The new Family House was one of the first buildings in Mission Bay – a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood with residential areas, biotech companies, the UCSF Mission Bay campus, Oracle Park and the Chase Center. This year, we invite you to celebrate the 10^th Anniversary with us in honor of our families. 

Over the last 10 years, our mission has welcomed thousands of families from California and all over the world. Our professional staff, a dedicated board and about 4000 volunteers a year fill every family need that they can, all 100% free of charge to our families. We are the community that believes that no family whose child is being treated for cancer or another life-threatening illness should be isolated or alone.  

Our beautiful, modern, Platinum LEED certified building continues to be a place of comfort and magic, providing community and refuge for every family who walks through our doors. Our partnership with our colleagues at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals continues to grow. Family House continues to be acknowledged as essential in the continuum of care for families who travel from 50-miles away and more seeking world-class medical care for their children.  

This year, there are many ways  that you can bring home the magic to support the children, parents, siblings and extended families in our care. Our heart for the families we serve is forever and growing. In 2026, we’re embracing our families, our community of support and new friends inspired by the compassion that took an enduring leap just 10 years ago.
