Summer High School Volunteer Program

Every summer Family House seeks a group of motivated high school students that want to make a difference in the lives of the families that stay with us while receiving treatment at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.

Due to COVID-19 Family House has decided to postpone the high school summer program scheduled for the summer of 2020. The health and safety of our families and volunteers is of the utmost importance as we continue to navigate these difficult times. If we are unable to host the program this year we will plan to have the program return in the summer of 2021. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to working with you in the near future.

Greetings! Family House is seeking motivated high school students who are looking to make a difference in the lives of families with a child receiving treatment at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. If you are a high school student looking for a summer volunteer opportunity, our 6-week Family House Summer Volunteer Program might be a perfect match for you!

Are you interested in working with families and children, non-profit management, hospitality, event planning, and marketing? Volunteering at Family House is a great way to make a difference in your community, discover a new interest, make new friends, and have fun! Each week, students will participate in activities which may include: engaging with families, collaborating with peers and Family House staff, assisting with administrative & event support, and facilitating daily tasks including large scale projects.

Program Details:

Location: Family House: 540 Mission Bay Blvd., North, San Francisco 94158
Orientation Date (required): Tuesday, June 16th or Wednesday June 17th from 5:00-6:30pm (approx. 1.5 hours). Parents or guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend the orientation. Limited parking is available on a first-come first-served basis.
Volunteer Program Hours: Tuesdays, 12:00pm-3:00pm. Sessions will take place mid-June through the end of July. The first session will be on Tuesday June 23rd and the last day will be Tuesday July 28th. The program concludes with a special volunteer day where we will interact directly with the families – the annual Family House Summer Carnival and BBQ.
Holidays: There will be no session the week of July 4th, 2020.
Deadline: Volunteer registration will close Friday, May 29th, 2020 (or as soon as all 15 spots are filled).
