This year’s Gala honors a group of volunteers who showed unwavering commitment to Family House during the COVID pandemic. These individuals were essential to our mission, going above and beyond to contribute extra care and services during such an uncertain time. Donned in full PPE, these dedicated friends hand delivered meals to every room and stocked the pantries to ensure food insecurity was not a concern for families. Bringing virtual activities, like bingo and scavenger hunts, to the house meant that families were still able to participate in fun activities. When we were able to start offering socially-distanced parties, they were among the first hosts to revive special events like Halloween. Lastly, hosting toy drives, book drives and pajama drives meant that families had the essential items they needed to truly make Family House a home away from home. Collectively, this group has contributed over 2,000 hours of their time and we can’t thank them enough for continuing to support Family House, and the families staying with us.

The Family House 42nd Annual Gala will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco. Our annual gala is a beloved night of celebration, connection and support among our board, donors, volunteers and friends in the Bay Area. The party will feature a festive cocktail reception, gourmet dinner with amazing wines, a finely curated live auction, plus music and so much more. Get dressed up in your favorite floral fashion and support Family House.
Since 1981, so much has changed for Family House. What started as ten rooms on Irving Street, run entirely by volunteers with an annual operating budget of under $200,000 has grown into a five-story, 80-bedroom facility in Mission Bay that can house more than 250 people per night. Now with a staff of more than 25 employees, Family House has been a haven for more than 60,000 families while their child is undergoing treatment for cancer or another life-threatening illness.
This year’s theme, Superbloom, represents new growth. A superbloom is a bright, wild and surprising wildflower bloom that you can see happening all over California from space in the spring. Blooms are everywhere in our community; all of us together create spectacular superblooms that grow the impact of community, care, compassion, sanctuary and keeping families together so that children can heal.
All event proceeds will fund direct services provided to our families, including temporary housing, meals and amenities for families with a child being treated for cancer or other life-threatening illnesses. All services are offered 100% free of charge for more than 4,000 kids and family members each year, thanks to generous donor support.
